The Role of a Developmental Educator
A Developmental Educator (DE) is a qualified professional with expertise to support people with neurodivergence fully participate in their community. DEs focus on the individual and their sociocultural context to identify and address attitudinal and environmental barriers, promoting their functional independence, social inclusion, and self-advocacy. They do this through person centered planning, encouraging community connection, advocating and addressing attitudinal barriers within the individual's socio-context.

DE's promote community connections to enhance the individual's capacity, skill development and sense of belonging, developing community connections and driving inclusion.

Developmental educators operate within a human rights-based framework to ensure individuals with disabilities receive equitable treatment. This professional approach prioritizes the removal of systemic barriers while fostering environments where clients can exercise autonomy. By facilitating access to necessary supports, practitioners uphold the fundamental rights of every individual to lead a secure and self-determined life.
